A phrase that every interior designer hates hearing. We are constantly being told that being an Interior Designer isn’t a real job, that anyone can do what we do, and that simply it’s not something to be paid for.
Well, today we are going to debunk this. Being an interior designer is a real job, a job that does take skill, a job that not everyone can do.
Think about your favourite hotel, whether this is UK based or abroad. Now think about why this is your favourite hotel, is it the inside design, how it looks on the outside? Well, guess what an interior designer would’ve designed all of the aspects you enjoy. All of the small and minute details are what interior designers think about, what they add on for your enjoyment.
Now think about this… can you look at your room and see the small ways you could improve it? No, we don’t mean changing up the colour scheme or adding new wallpaper. We mean ways you can add more light. The ways you can make the most out of the space in your room, how you can make it feel a certain way. We didn’t think you could do that. This is a skill that an interior designer has, a skill that they have spent time mastering and understanding. We can go into the smallest of rooms and see many opportunities, ways that the rooms space can be maximised.
So, next time you think an interior designer isn’t doing a real job and anyone can do it. Truly think if you could do it. Could you design the room how they have? Could you add the little touches that bring a certain feel to the room? It is a real job, and every interior designer should be proud of what they are doing for our society.
